The TrueSilicon LIN Controller IP is a lightweight and cost-efficient serial communication interface designed for reliable data exchange in distributed embedded systems, particularly in automotive and industrial applications. It is fully compliant with the LIN Protocol Specification and ISO 17987 standards, enabling seamless communication between master and slave nodes over a single-wire bus.
The controller supports both master and slave modes, allowing flexible deployment in a wide range of system topologies. In master mode, it manages the scheduling of communication by transmitting frame headers, while in slave mode, it responds to master requests based on configured identifiers.
The IP includes dedicated hardware support for LIN protocol elements such as break field generation/detection, synchronization field handling, identifier parity checking, and checksum computation. Automatic baud rate synchronization ensures reliable communication even in the presence of clock variations.
Designed for easy integration, the LIN Controller interfaces with system buses such as APB or AXI, providing efficient access to configuration, control, and status registers. Its UART-compatible backend simplifies physical layer interfacing and reduces implementation complexity.
The controller incorporates transmit and receive buffers, minimizing CPU intervention and enabling efficient handling of LIN frames. Interrupt generation supports various events including frame transmission, reception, error detection, and wake-up signals.
The fully synchronous RTL architecture ensures predictable timing behaviour, simplified integration, and ease of verification. Optimized for power, performance, and area (PPA), the IP is well-suited for applications such as body electronics, sensor networks, and actuator control.
